I Can Drive

I’ve been working on this blues song / poem for a while now. The words are a reflection of my frustration. Its about not be able to believe in your own dreams enough to fulfill them.

Most of what I write will tend to have a positive message or spin on a seemingly bad situation.

This isn’t one of those songs.

It’s more of a putdown on myself, but it does offer some direction to goodness if I could learn how to “read the signs.”

I Can Drive
(But I Don’t Know How to Steer)

I can drive
But I don’t know how to steer
Keep my eyes
On the rear view mirror
Fighting up hill
Stuck in second gear
I can drive
But I don’t know how to steer

I push the gas
But don’t know how to get there
Circle so fast
Stop and then stare
Thinking of all
The roads to nowhere
I push the gas
But don’t know how to get there

There ain’t but one road
That each of us travelin’
Pick a place to go
Don’t need no baggage

I see the signs
But don’t know where I’ve been
Out of my mind
On the same dead end
Gotta slow down
Just to begin
I see the signs
But don’t know where I’ve been

Lyrics by Ryan Hughes (Aug-Sept 2018)
